Rolf's Salon: Creating the Perfect Experience

Rolf’s stylists offer professional secrets to clients seeking to get the most out of their salon experience. You will be surprised to find that the salon nirvana is right around the corner.

1. Enjoy your visit: Come early to relax and enjoy a quiet moment. Rolf’s Salon is not just about a great cut and finish—it's also about pampering and taking time for yourself.

2. Exploring Ideas: Before you start, take time to communicate and explore ideas with your Stylist. A Rolf Stylist is both artist and professional—the more information they have the greater their outcome. We love people and we love hair, so plan take your time and talk to us.

3. Envisioning Your Goal: A visit to Rolf’s is a partnership. Take the time to establish just what you want—make the direction you want clear. Make sure that the Stylist ‘envisions’ what you ‘envision’. If you’re unsure yourself about what you want, ask more questions, ask for more feedback, or ask for our frank assessment. Make sure your Stylist understands what you see in your mind. Bring pictures or draw examples.

4. Change is a Process: Also understand that some goals will take more time—maybe even several visits over several weeks (such as a big color change or a completely new direction). Make sure you understand what steps your service takes to achieve what you want. Best results usually require an intelligent process of smaller steps, regular conditioning, home-care, and follow-up. Develop a realistic strategy with your Stylist. Some types of change might even be unrealistic. So understand the process and understand the steps it sometimes takes. Don’t be afraid to ask questions (or even express doubts).

5. Trying Something New: While some guests know exactly what they want, Rolf’s is the perfect place to try something new. You can trust your Stylist. Very likely they’re the most educated and talented Stylist you will ever have. Be open to ideas. Ask for suggestions or ask us to show you other possibilities. At Rolf’s, it’s even common for Stylists’ to ask their fellow colleagues for additional angles or a different vision. However, don’t let us talk you into something you don’t want.

6. Mixing It Up: At Rolf’s we even encourage you to try different Stylists on different visits. Don’t worry about switching around. We’re all part of the same family. Although we’re all Rolf trained, each stylist is slightly different, with slightly different talents. Mixing up is healthy, fun, and sometimes in your best interest (gives you new possibilities and opinions). Ask your current Stylist to recommend another Rolf Stylist who might be especially talented or have a different thought.

7. Value of Hair Conditioning: Conditioning treatment strategies make a huge difference—especially with coloring. Most people don’t realize how powerful a regular conditioning strategy is. To maximize your results, take advantage of conditioning techniques and products. A recent Rolf’s Stylist survey showed that the regular use of professional-grade Salon conditioners made the greatest overall long-term difference.

8. Professional Products Make a Difference: Understand that there is typically a huge difference between ‘consumer’ vs. ‘professional products’. Consumer products usually have a less expensive formula, are generally diluted, may be out-of-date or improperly stored, or may even be working against your desired result. It’s like baking a cake, you can’t perfect the recipe without understanding your ingredients.

9. Finishing Touch: If possible, give us time to ‘personalize’ and ‘finish’ your hair. Unless we know it in advance, some of the best and most subtle dry-cutting and shaping takes place during the final ‘blow out’. It’s often this professional ‘last touch’ that makes the biggest difference. When leaving the Salon ‘wet’ is sometimes more convenient, ‘personalizing’ and ‘adapting’ each style with a professional finish is well worth it. The Rolf’s Stylist also uses this finish stage to show you how to create the same effect at home.

10. Self-Care: Ask about home conditioning and self-care. Part of your Stylist’s job is to educate and train you. Learn which products work best for your hair and lifestyle. Learn how to use them. Ask your Stylist to train you home drying and self-styling. Your looking great every day between visits is what makes us most proud. Remember that both professional ‘conditioning’ and ‘finishing’ are typically the two most neglected areas. Using professional products, and then understanding how to ‘home condition and self-finish’ your hair makes all the difference.

11. Adjustment Period: New styles and colors sometime take getting used to. Your brain (and sometimes your spouse’s brain) may need time to adapt. One researcher said that neurological adjustment to a significant change might even take up to 9 days. Get an objective person’s opinion. Let it grow on you. (But if you still have doubts feel free to give us a call).

12. Satisfaction Guaranteed: If your result isn’t what you imagined, please take the time to discuss it with your Stylist (or with our manager). We’re here to serve, nurture, and learn. Results often require several steps. It’s an evolutionary process. Styling is a combination of science, skill, and art but it is always applied to a medium that’s unique to each person. While Rolf always guarantees satisfaction, we also encourage and ask for feedback.
