Miss Arizona Teen Contestant Brings Pride to Rolf’s Salon
Ava, one of Rolf's internationally trained Gainey Village stylists, recently had the joy of sponsoring Miss Arizona Teen contestant, Hayli Metter, by donating a color and style. Rolf’s looks forward to sponsoring more of these talented and exceptional women next year.
Even as a young woman, Hayli has the attributes of what Rolf refers to as ‘intelligent beauty’ – a person who respects her mind, health, and spirit. In addition to her studies, Hayli has a passion for journalism, is writing a book, plays the violin in her school’s symphonic orchestra, edits a newspaper and then also manages a part time job. We at Rolf’s are proud of her spirit and ‘can do’ attitude.
After all of her hard work, Hayli was chosen “First Runner-Up” in the pageant and received the Miss Photogenic award. We had the honor of speaking to Hayli after the long pageant weekend.
Rolf’s: What did you do to prepare for this event?
Hayli: “I did a ton to prepare. Dieting and exercising were definitely at the top of my list, and I had to learn the proper way to walk and pose as well. I also had to learn how to do my makeup, have an airbrush tan done, purchase the gown, opening number dress, swimsuit, and also darken my hair.”
Rolf’s: How has your life changed?
Hayli: “I've become a lot more confident since the pageant. Competing in it was one thing, but actually coming in such a high placement was something else all together! I also made some really great friends through the pageant and still keep in contact with nearly all of them.”
Rolf’s: How did you feel when you received services at Rolf’s?
Hayli: “I felt very comfortable and pampered. I was very appreciative that I could have my hair done at such a prestigious salon, and my hair was exactly what I had hoped for when Ava had finished. She knew just what I wanted and had the color exactly right.”
Rolf’s: “Did you feel more confident when you left Rolf’s?
Hayli: “Absolutely. As somebody who has had her hair done at SuperCuts for the past ten years, it was truly a breath of fresh air to have my hair done at such a nice salon. I came out with hair that was much different than what I was used to, much more healthy and natural looking. Ava was excellent. When I attempted to explain what I wanted with my hair, it didn't take long for her to understand exactly the look I was going for. She was very friendly and did a wonderful job. She advised me to stay calm and have fun during the pageant. She told me that I was going to do great. Ava was very kind and easy to talk to.”
Rolf’s: “Do you think Rolf’s should sponsor more contestants for next year’s pageant?
Hayli: “Yes! I think that girls would be extremely happy with the service at Rolf's, and I know that I'll definitely be coming back next year to have my hair done. Rolf's helped make my pageant experience so wonderful. I seriously doubt I would have succeeded as highly as I did without having my hair done at a place like Rolf's and will definitely be coming back to them again next year, if not sooner! My mom told me how many people around her in the audience commented how shiny my hair looked on stage, and she told everyone that it was something the hair salon had done. I got a lot of compliments on my hair, and I know that other girls would jump at the chance if given the opportunity to have their hair done at Rolf's.”
Rolf’s: “What are your plans for the future?
Hayli: “I definitely plan to compete in the 2010 pageant next year! As for the next five years, college is a biggy on my list. I hope to attend ASU’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism. I'd love to be a news anchor one day, or major in some kind of broadcast journalism.”
Rolf’s: “What advice do you have for women who would like to enter the pageant?
Hayli: “Compete in the pageant with no expectations. Look at it as if you are competing with the other girls rather than against them because it makes the whole experience much more fun. You have the opportunity to make some amazing friends over the weekend, so jump at the chance and talk to everyone you see. You're going to have such an amazing time, and you'll be creating a memory of a lifetime.”
Rolf’s: Would you do it again?
Hayli: “It was such a blast! It was such an incredible weekend and I can't wait to apply for next year.”
